Sinds het jaar 1923 is er een bergtrein tussen Domodossola in Ossola en Locarno aan het Lago Maggiore. In Italië heet het treintje 'Vigezzina' en 'Centovallina (100 Valleien)' in Zwitserland. Regelmatig worden er beelden van het unieke traject op de televisie vertoont, bijvoorbeeld bij natuur- of treinreisdocumentaires. Het is dan ook een technisch wonder met 53 km. klimmende bruggetjes. De route gaat vanuit Domodossola (267 m.) langs het eerste Nationale Park van de Italiaanse Alpen 'Valgrande', via prachtige plaatsjes als Druogno (826 m.) , Santa Maria Maggiore (830 m.), Re (680 m.) en Intragna (339 m.) naar Locarno (250 m.) aan het Lago Maggiore. Deze excursie biedt een prachtige manier om van de natuurlijke omgeving te genieten.

The MountainTrain travels between Domodossola in Ossola and Locarno Lago Maggiore since 1923. The Italian name for the little train is 'Vigezzina' and 'Centovallina (100 Valleys)' in Switzerland.
